Product Description
With great support from our talented employees, we are becoming as one of the reliable manufacturers and suppliers of Tundish Covering Compound. It is a highly insulating powder that is utilized for reducing oxidation and hydrogen build-up in the melt. This compound is formulated as a mixture of salts that is added at the base of molten metal in tundish. It also helps in reducing the cost of re-melting of alloys with improved properties. Tundish Covering Compound can be availed in acidic and basic formulations required according to the purpose of use.
Features:- Helps in minimizing the heat loss due to radiation
- Increases the wait-time of molten hot metal
- Instantly expands and spread
A slag covering and Ladle/ Tundish Insulating compound
Product In Brief
DA FEX-II a silica based insulating compound, acidic in nature, is specially formulated for use as a Tundish insulating cover in conventional casting
DA FEX-II. an extremely efficient insulator, medium exothermic which covers the entire metal surface in the Tundish. It prevents heat losses in the metal and reduces skulling near nozzles and ladle. Immediately after the addition it Spreads on the metal surface and dry throughout the pour. Ladle dumps out clean metal with no metal adhering to the refractory lining. It is specially recommended for supersilica boards.
There is no need to superheat metal prior to handling thus extending furnace and ladle refractory life while contributing to overall operating efficiency and improved metallurgical properties.
Recommended use of this compound is 2-25 kgs. per ton of molten metal or 15 kgs. per meter square, depending on the size of ingots.
PACKING
It is packed in 10 kgs. HDPE woven sacks, which is ideal for throwing over the metal in ladle or tundish.
Superior Insulation for Steel CastingEngineered for use in tundish operations, this covering compound effectively minimizes heat loss and controls slag during the continuous casting of steel. Its low thermal conductivity and excellent dimensional stability at high temperatures protect both the tundish lining and molten metal, contributing to consistent casting quality and productivity.
Reliable Performance in Extreme ConditionsWith a melting point above 1200C and purity exceeding 98%, this compound is formulated to withstand the rigorous demands of steel casting. It retains structural integrity and thermal efficiency under tundish temperatures, making it highly dependable for uninterrupted operations even in the most challenging industrial environments.
FAQs of Tundish Covering Compound:
Q: How is Tundish Covering Compound applied during steel casting operations?
A: The compound is typically spread evenly over the molten metal surface in the tundish using a hand scoop or mechanical spreader. Its free-flowing granular or powder form ensures smooth and uniform application, creating an effective insulating barrier.
Q: What are the main benefits of using this compound in continuous casting?
A: Its primary benefits include reduced heat loss, effective slag control, prevention of metal splashing, and protection of both the tundish and molten metal, which collectively enhance steel quality and process safety.
Q: When should Tundish Covering Compound be added during the casting process?
A: It is most effective when added immediately after the influx of molten metal into the tundish, ensuring optimal insulation from the start of the casting sequence and continuous coverage as needed.
Q: Where is this compound most commonly used?
A: It finds application in steel plants that utilize tundish systems for continuous casting processes. It is distributed, exported, and supplied primarily in India, but can be used globally wherever tundish insulation is required.
Q: What is the process for ensuring optimal coverage and performance?
A: To ensure optimal results, evenly distribute the compound over the tundish metal surface, monitor thickness, and reapply as necessary to maintain complete coverage throughout the casting cycle.
Q: Can this tundish covering compound be used with any type of molten steel?
A: Yes, it is designed for compatibility with various steel grades and is effective for different tundish designs, thanks to its excellent thermal and chemical stability at high temperatures.
Q: What sets this tundish covering compound apart from similar products?
A: Its combination of high purity (>98%), low thermal conductivity, exceptional dimensional stability, and negligible water absorption make it a superior choice for insulating and protecting tundish systems in steel casting applications.
